This Hauntingly Beautiful World

This is a new poem that I just wrote. I have been struggling lately on what I feel God wants for me and my life… hope ya’ll enjoy!

I sit here

Looking at this world

At this hauntingly beautiful world.

I see You in everything.

I see You in the stars on a crystal clear night

I see You in the roaring never ending ocean

I see You in the piercing colors that scatter the sky when the sun leaves me

And then returns in the morning

I see You in the smile of a child that is about to bless my ears with innocent laughter

I see You in everything

From a Red leaf drifting from a tree

To the mountains that touch the clouds

I see us in this broken world

I see us in thick black smoke that covers the stars

I see us in the plastic that plagues the ocean,

So thick that swimming is no longer easy

I see us in the buildings that hide away the sun’s hello and goodbye

I see us in the tears, blood, and bloated bellies of innocent children

I see us everywhere that I should see You

I sit here

Looking at this world

At this hauntingly beautiful world

I hear the tears and hatred

Coming from us

Asking how You could let this happen

I sit here

Looking at this world

At this hauntingly beautiful world .

Through the wind that rustle the trees

It’s almost as if I can hear you…

Asking me the same exact question

I sit here

Looking at this world

At this hauntingly beautiful world

Seeing for perhaps the first time

How humanity has progressed

Sure, we live longer,

And typically have better lives than we used to

Because of human progress.

But I wonder, if in the midst of all this progress

We forgot about the gifts you gave us…

I wonder if with all this progress

We are actually hiding your gifts of the world?

Oh my Lord,

I know each one of us

Were put here for a reason

To know you and make you known

But how?

How can I give you glory

In a world that glorifies oneself?

How can I unmask your beauty

And show the world?

How can I live life in this hauntingly beautiful world

And display you everywhere I go?

Oh lord,

Let them see you when they see me.

Let me be your servant

That delivers your message to this broken world.

Let me follow your will

Nothing more, nothing less, and nothing else.

Oh lord,

Please use me.

Use the pieces of my heart,

I place them in your hands to use,

To make others whole.

Oh lord,

Use me to make a dent in this world,

Not leaving it better,

But leaving it more like You.

Oh lord,

Guide me like a compass

To find those that need You most.

I sit here.

I feel you moving in my chest,

so powerful that I can’t breath.

I sit here.

No. I look up,

Fresh tears on my checks

Your love in my heart

Your fire in my veins

And I stand.

Lord,

My father,

My best friend,

Help me remember,

            When I am sitting

Frightened about this world around me

            This hauntingly beautiful world,

Your world, the one you created for us,

Help me remember

That all I must do is stand

And let you take care of the rest.
