Fading Lights

Here is a poem that I have just recently written. Hope you enjoy:

Fading lights

Do you see them?

When you look up at the sky can you see

The twinkling from above?

Can you feel their presence

Their energy

Can you feel them?

Can you feel it?

Time passing by?

Can you feel it taking pieces from you

And replacing it with others?

Can you see the cosmos

Over the never ending bright lights?

Can you see the edge of the world

Beyond the buildings around you?

Can you see past the screens?

Can you feel, and taste the moist smooth air?

Or is it all just a blur?

Can you see past your life?

                                                Can you see past yourself,

                                                And who you once were,

And feel the past slipping away?

The stars are no longer what they once were

They can never be

Is that what you want?

To lose a part of history?

But is it even in your control?

Is it even yours to control?

I got asked the other day

What was the purpose of life?

                                                   Why even care at all?

I stumbled, I faltered, and I had no answer.

So now, I look up at the stars

And I see that they are no longer the

Hopeful bright lights that they once were.

And I think back on that moment

That space in time where my answer was lagging

            And I wonder if this

The waning stars are my purpose

I wonder if this world around me

            This fading universe

I wonder if this is what I exist for?

Have a blessed day! Miabel J. Self
